Sarah Young Devotional

I read a devotional book by Sarah Young titled "Jesus Calling".

Here is what was written for today, September 12.  She writes like Jesus is writing right to you....

"Recieve My Peace. It is My continual gift to you. The best way to receive this gift is to sit quietly in My Presence, trusting Me in every area in your life. Quietness and trust accomplish far more that you can imagine; not only in you, but also on earth and in heaven. When you trust Me in a given area, you can release that person or problem into my care."

"Spending time alone with Me can be a difficult discipline, because it goes against the activity addiction of this age. You may appear to be doing nothing, but actually you are participating in battles going on within spiritual realms. You are waging war- not with the weapons of the world, but with heavenly weapons, which have divine power to demolish strongholds. Living close to Me is a sure defense against evil."

And then Sarah Young references these verses:

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Isaiah 30:15  This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.

2 Corinthians 10:4  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

A dream, with hope, faith and love

Have you ever thought about something and just had such a passion and desire to do it? And thought that maybe it could be something bigger than yourself? A dream to do something? Have you prayed about it and felt like God supported you in it, but were still unsure?

I believe that if we are living our lives for God, he will give each of us a dream. He will give us a hope to do something that will make Him known through His love. And it will require us to have faith in Him to live that dream out.

I think alot of dreams vanish. They are thoughts and the actions to drive them to be reality are none.

Because it can be scary to think we might fail at a dream. Because there might be obstacles bigger than our dream in the way.

But God is good and big. And I just want to encourage you today that if you believe your dream is part of what He has for you in this life and is done with faith, hope, and love in Him , it can be something you enjoy that will form a future that God dreams about for you.

Commandment

Sometimes, one of the hardest things for me as a Christian is to do this little sentence.

"Love your neighbor as yourself." (quoted by Jesus- Mark 12:31)

I know that to love means to care, to give, and to pray.

And I know He also said "Do unto others as you would like them to do to you." (Luke 6:31)

I am just sayin' this like it is for me.....sometimes this is so hard.

Because people can be rude, offensive, and downright mean.

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

But here it is, plain and clear.  Not scientific, not wordy, not impossible.  Not a 'try to love others', but a commandment to love others.

Paul says in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."  So I am able to love others with the strength God gives me.

Still sounds tough.

But I am going to believe and ask God for strength in His love to show toward others.

I know he will help me.

And I know I will mess up sometimes and situations may get the better of me.  But when I realize it, I'll know just what to do.

Show God's love.

But Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Matthew 19:26

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.

In the Silence

Tired of telling you, you have me
When I know you really don't
Tired of telling you I'll follow
When I know I reallly won't
Cause I'd rather stand here speechless
With no great words to say

If my silence is more truthful
And my ears can hear how to walk in your way

In the silence
You are speaking
In the quiet I can feel the fire
And it's burning, burning deeply
Burning all that it is that you desire to be silent, in me

Lyrics by Jason Upton 'In the Silence'

Whether we are honest in silence or honest in words, God knows.

Sometimes He is the only one who knows.

Sometimes when we are in silence, it's when we hear the most words and the strongest voice.

How humbling.

Loyalty

When loyalty is present, a relationship is secure and solid. The Bible teaches that loyalty is part of the character of God Himself. He expresses His loyalty by refusing to give up on us no matter how often we disappoint Him. You express your loyalty to God through obedience to His Word.

The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness to all who keep His covenant and obey His demands. Psalm 25:10

Thank you God for being the ultimate in giving grace.

2 Corinthians 12:9

And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
